Africa AI Creator’s Academy

Issued by ArtsEnvoy.ai
A project of Lisa Russell Films, LLC

At ArtsEnvoy.ai, we believe that the future of AI must be grounded in ethics, equity, and cultural sovereignty.

As a platform dedicated to creative education and responsible AI storytelling, we are committed to building systems that center local leadership, informed consent, and environmental sustainability. We approach our work with an acute awareness of the legacies of colonization, cultural erasure, and extractive development that have historically shaped the relationship between technology and the Global South.

Our flagship initiative, the Africa AI Creator’s Academy, reflects this commitment. It is not a top-down model exported from New York. It is a co-created, community-led ecosystem where artists, educators, and technologists shape their own AI storytelling programs using tools designed to serve—not extract.

We work in close collaboration with partners in Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and India. These partners are not implementers. They are co-creators. They help determine thematic relevance, adapt tools to local contexts, and ensure our curriculum reflects the lived realities of students and communities. From Nairobi to Mombasa to Dar es Salaam, we see firsthand that education, creativity, and culture are deeply local. And so must be the design of ethical AI.

We also acknowledge the environmental and intellectual risks associated with the rapid growth of generative AI. As a signatory of the United Nations Green Digital Compact, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint, promoting digital sustainability, and engaging in AI governance frameworks that prioritize human rights and planetary well-being.

Co-Creation, Data, and IP: Our Commitments

To ensure that our values are reflected in practice, ArtsEnvoy.ai publicly commits to the following:

1. Local Partnerships and Shared Leadership

We work alongside local educators, youth leaders, artists, and technologists to shape every phase of program design. Our Kenya pilot, in partnership with POSH IT LIMITED, is one example of this shared governance. In each region, partners determine the curriculum focus, ensure cultural and linguistic relevance, and retain local ownership over the data and tools developed.

2. Co-Creation Over Consultation

Our programs are not simply reviewed by local stakeholders—they are built with them. Local collaborators have creative control, authorship rights, and the authority to adapt and evolve content to reflect changing realities on the ground.

3. Hyperlocalization by Design

Each version of the Africa AI Creator’s Academy is uniquely tailored. From local proverbs and design aesthetics to regional education systems and storytelling traditions, we ensure that no two pilots are alike. This is not a flaw—it is the foundation of inclusive design.

4. Ethical Data Practices and Sovereignty

We only collect data necessary to improve learning outcomes, curriculum design, and non-commercial research. All data is opt-in, transparent, and governed by informed consent.

We will never use participant data to train third-party or commercial AI models without full disclosure, shared benefit agreements, and locally held ownership.

Wherever possible, data is stored regionally and governed in partnership with local institutions in accordance with principles of data sovereignty.

5. Intellectual Property Protections

All creative work generated by students or users through ArtsEnvoy.ai remains their property. We support users in protecting, licensing, and monetizing their work. If any content is featured in case studies or promotional material, it will be done only with prior consent and appropriate attribution.

We are exploring decentralized IP systems and smart contract infrastructure to ensure fair revenue sharing and long-term protections for creators.

6. Environmental Accountability

We prioritize the use of energy-efficient models and cloud infrastructure. We are exploring regional data centers and low-carbon alternatives to further reduce emissions.

As a signatory to the UN Green Digital Compact, we are aligning our practices with global benchmarks for sustainability in digital development.

7. AI Governance and Global Engagement

ArtsEnvoy.ai actively participates in global forums shaping ethical AI policy, especially in the domains of education, cultural preservation, and narrative justice. We believe the future of AI must be shaped by the voices of those who have historically been left out of its design.

Ethics is not a feature of our platform. It is the foundation.

If you are a student, educator, creative technologist, policymaker, or partner interested in co-creating locally grounded, culturally rich, and ethically responsible AI storytelling programs, we welcome your collaboration.
